Why I Chose OTA PTA

For as long as I can remember I've known I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. I enjoy a challenge and seeing both the process and end result of that. Being able to assist people during a difficult time in there life and be part of their journey to recovery is a very rewarding place to be in. I thought about nursing and then later realized that I would rather be part of something where I can be creative and help others work towards their goals. Once I started looking into other options I came across OTA PTA. I knew some people who have gone to school for it and they loved it. I asked some questions about what it was like and relsized that it would be a great fit for me.

Where Im At

Im currently a first year OTA PTA student at Niagara College. Through this program I will be able to learn and gain in class experience I need to make a career out of it.  I will also be going on placements in different fields to get further experience and decide which area I would like to work in, wether that be hospital, long-term care, paediatric, clinics, etc. I am looking forward to the next 2 years of learning and seeing where it takes me.

My Goals

My goals are to graduate as a certified OTA PTA in 2028. I hope to get a job and work for a year after that. Once I am in the field for awhile I will decide if I want to go back to school and further my education to become a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, or maybe even something different. For the time being, I will work hard to prepare myself for the future.
